The Jailhouse Rock
The colossal dragonfly is chasing me and Brandon. The dragonfly does not appear to be in anyway tame or calm. It seems as if the beast is a cold-blooded killer. Brandon and I are running for our lives; I am screaming while Brandon is falling and tripping onto the muddy ground.
I suppose you're wondering why we're running from a beast that in today's society, would seem like a freak of nature that the government let out. Only some of it, due to the jailhouses that the government let out, is our fault. It's part of their top-secret mission to control all of the United States by taking everyone that had committed some sort of crime, and placing them in areas where no human life exists. Once the villains and other felons realize that their leader or buddy is never coming out of that jail cell, they start to get concerned. It's a genius plan honestly, very well thought out.
It all started out on a hot summer day. School got out, so my friends Brandon and Rivers had come over. There of course was nothing out of the ordinary that day, just friends being friends. We decided that we were going to go to walk to town to go rent a movie. That's where mistake one happened. On our way to the video store, we were stopped by an old woman right before the train tracks. The woman told us of these jailhouses that the government had set up, secretly disguised as one that we had known to love. We all brushed off the woman as crazy. WOOOHHH! "You'll see! You'll all see I'm not crazy!" The woman jumped in front of the train, only to have a police officer be driving nearby. He stopped, turned on his lights, and came towards us as fast as lightning.
"Woah kids, what happened here? Is she...did you..?" The officer stops, pulls his radio to his mouth, and says that he requests backup, three teenagers have murdered a woman.
"NO! WAIT! STOP! WE DIDN'T DO IT, I SWEAR," Rivers protested.
"Just.. stop it.. You're making a fool out of yourself, kid," the officer replied.
Brandon and I looked at each other and knew exactly what to do. We ran as fast as our legs could take us. The station was at least two miles away, and we knew that if we ran in the other direction towards the forest, we'd be able to make it. Rivers stayed and looked at us. He knew that he would get less of a severe punishment for staying, so he did.
Our actions were foolish. Neither one of us knew where we were going. We both ran so fast, we collapsed onto each other. Just our luck however, the backup police officers came, saw us, and took us to their car. We were immediately taken to the courthouse right next to the prison. It was a slow day, so they took us straight to the judge to go to trial. The judge ordered us to life in prison. We were taken immediately to the jail next door. Before we were let in, he took off our handcuffs, and just shoved us into the room. That's when things started.
We both must have fallen unconscious. I woke up first only to realize, we weren't in a jail at all... I don't even think we were in the United States anymore. Brandon was a smart kid. He put one and two together (the bugs with three foot long wingspans and plants that were in no need of water, but were huge), and he declared that we were in the Paleozoic Era. Most likely in the Carboniferous time period. We went back in time 300 million years ago.
He stated that it was not the Cambrian due to the lack of all shallow seas, not the Ordovician because of the lack of ice caps and more shallow seas, not the Silurian because it's more advanced then that, not the Devonian because there are not certain seas, and not the Permian because it is not full of desert and Pangea has not fully formed yet.
We thought we were hallucinating. None of this story so far had even made sense to us. That's when we really started to see things. WWSSZZZHHSSWWZZ! A gigantic dragonfly flew by our heads. It looked like a big blur of blue. It was absolutely terrifying. Brandon was not very smart when it came to animals however, so he ran right up to it to try to take a picture with his cellphone. That's when the beast got angry. It chased us through the steamy terrain, and scared us to death.
I quickly ran and hid behind a rock. "LANA! GET BACK HERE! HE'S GONNA GET M--!" The dragonfly ate him in one gulp. I started crying. I was here all alone in this giant land that hadn't even existed for me for 245 million years, there were giant bugs chasing me, and I was scared. For goodness sakes, Pangea hasn't even formed yet! The land hadn't even come together, and I was all alone. The dragonfly hovered right over me until...
I woke up. I was in the science room. This was all a dream. There was no Brandon, no Rivers, no giant bugs. That crazy woman was just a disfigured form of my grandmother. None of what happened was real. The only thing I realized was that the teacher was talking about what I just came out of. It was just a horrible nightmare.
